Manatee County accepting applications for Manatee County Public Library Board of Trustees

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Nov. 14, 2019) – Manatee County is accepting applications for three seats on the Manatee County Public Library Board of Trustees.

The Library Board is responsible for creating and recommending policy for the operation of the Library System to Manatee County Commissioners.

The openings are:

  • A representative of the City of Bradenton, appointed by the City Council of the City of Bradenton.
  • A representative of City of Palmetto, appointed by the City Council of the City of Palmetto.
  • A representative of the Anna Maria Island municipalities. Applicants must be a resident of Anna Maria, Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach or the Town of Longboat Key.

They are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, after consideration of any recommendations made by the Island municipalities.

Each member is appointed to a four-year term.

The advisory board meets on the third Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Downtown Central Library, 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard West, Bradenton.

Applications are due Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. and may be found online.

This past year, nearly 850,000 customers visited Manatee County libraries and used its resources more than 3.9 million times. Downloads of the system's digital ebook/eaudio/movies have continued to double each year, while technical training and computer assistance were up 16 percent.

The 47,000 customers who attended the system's variety of informational and educational programs and events have seen a 130 percent increase since 2006.
