Manatee County Floodplain Ordinance

On January 7, 2014, the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners voted to adopt the new Floodplain Ordinance 13-39. This ordinance has been designed to be a companion to the Florida Building Code which has incorporated flood resistant construction.

Floodplain Disclosure Form

This form is required for construction in the floodplain where there is an enclosure below the required finished floor elevation.  This form must be signed by the owner and notarized and starting on January 13, 2014, must be recorded at the Clerk of Circuit Court before permit issuance.

By codifying this in the ordinance, we have the potential to earn 50 points in the Community Rating System.  This is a voluntary program where communities can earn discounts on flood insurance premiums for citizens in the Special Flood Hazard Areas (zones starting in A or V).  Manatee County currently earns a 25% discount for our citizens.  We are working diligently to look for activities and ways to earn points to increase that discount to the next level.
