Animal Services Advisory Board

Purpose

The Animal Services Advisory Board of Manatee County was created by the Board of County Commissioners in 1996 for the purpose of considering reports and presentations, advising and making recommendations to the Board in matters involving Animal Services and related issues in Manatee County, Florida, in which the Board has lawful jurisdiction. Resolution R-15-165, approved by the Board of County Commissioners on November 17, 2015, reestablished the Animal Services Advisory Board and its duties.

Membership Requirements

Membership consists of seven members from the following categories:

  • Up to three citizens who are either corporate officers of, or have written authorization to represent, existing non-profit organizations, agencies or voluntary associations within the County with a primary mission of the care, handling or rescue of domestic animals. As to this category, no one organization, agency or association may have more than one representative holding one of these three representative seats at any given time;
  • One citizen with expertise in business development, finance and/or operations;
  • One veterinarian, who, during his or her term, is licensed and actively practicing and is not employed by or under contract with Manatee County;
  • One citizen who dos not fall within the foregoing categories, who is not associated with an existing rescue agency, and who, within two years prior to appointment, has adopted an animal from Manatee County Animal Services.
  • One citizen who does not fall within the foregoing categories, who is not associated with an existing rescue agency, and who, within two years prior to appointment, has volunteered for Manatee County Animal Services or an established private rescue agency within the County for at least ten days, as verified by the relevant agency.
  • All appointments shall be for a term of four years.

Meetings

Meetings are held on an as-needed basis at locations as coordinated by the Chairperson and staff liaison assigned to the Board.
