The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners established the Southwest County Improvement District (SWTIF) under Ordinance No. 14-28, adopted on June 3, 2014 to become effective on October 1, 2014. The boundary is from Manatee Avenue on the north to the Sarasota County line on the south, and from Sarasota Bay on the west to U.S. 301 on the east. A TIF is a public financing method that is used as a subsidy for redevelopment infrastructure, and other community-improvement projects.
