Aerial Photography capture (1989) into an ArcInfo coverage entitled geobase_poly was done via heads-up digitizing. This data was selected out of geobase_poly which also contained major water bodies and ponds (< 50,000 s.f.). Subsequently maintained from heads-up digitizing of county's latest aerial photography.

This data is usually checked (upon digitizing) to make sure that the polygon is greater than 50,000 square feet. This data is occasionally also checked as a whole to ensure that all polygons are greater than 50,000 square feet. This number is arbitrary, used to divide Lakes and Ponds into roughly even feature classes.
Only lakes which can be seen on aerial photography are captured (not, for example, those covered completely by vegetation). Small linear water features are also depicted in this data if open water is visible on the aerial photos.
This feature dataset is updated annually (if available) from new aerial photography. Due to minor shifting of the aerial photography images, only major shoreline changes are usually made.

The POLYID attribute is legacy in nature. It originally distinguished between land (1) and water (0). It is no longer used.
