EMS System

Manatee County Emergency Medical Services (MCEMS) protects over 740 square miles. Our organization is the sole 911 advanced life support transport organization for Manatee County. We operate out of stations strategically located throughout Manatee County. Our crews work a combination of 12 or 24 hour shifts. The 24 hour crews rotate through two assigned stations (one busy station and one moderate).

Special Teams Opportunities

Our service operates a variety of special teams and programs that will keep the best of paramedics and EMTs challenged. Programs include:

Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)

Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) that is like no other in the industry. Our team members train along side their law enforcement brothers and sisters and operate in a truly uniform fashion. Our paramedics attend a rigorous tactical medicine program and once credentialed, are issued a service weapon. Our paramedics train twice a month with the SWAT team and regularly participate in each SWAT activation.

Community Paramedicine

Manatee County Public Safety has a Community Paramedic Division that has been recognized by the State of Florida's EMS Advisory Council's Access to Care Committee as a model program. This new and emerging program is expanding resources and saving our local healthcare system hundreds of thousands of dollars while improving the quality of life or each patient served.

Beach Patrol Lifeguard Program

This  program takes a Florida certified paramedic and through on the job training, provides our paramedic with a lifeguard certification. Once fully credentialed, the lifeguard paramedic is assigned to a quick response Tahoe which patrols our beautiful coastline. This position reports to our sister division, Beach Patrol.

Bike Team (SABER)

Our Bike Team, better know locally as SABER, is utilized at large events such as parades, athletic events, and the County Fair. This team is comprised of specially trained EMTs and Paramedics that provide life saving emergency medical treatment to sick or injured individuals.

Firefighter Paramedic

Through a partnership with the Myakka City Fire Department, MCEMS provides specially trained firefighter paramedics to serve this beautiful, rural community in our county. Each Firefighter Paramedic is assigned to a fire engine and operates as one member of a two person crew. The firefighter paramedic acts primarily as the driver engineer but also operates vehicles such as brush trucks or other fire department apparatus. Adding advanced life support care to this region of Manatee County has substantially reduced ALS response times and improved patient outcomes.

Honor Guard

Our Honor Guard Team is first class! Operating in conjunction with the fire departments in Manatee County, our Honor Guard Team participates in several special events throughout the year. The Honor Guard has participated in parades, presented the Colors at Major League Baseball games, honored our fallen brothers and sisters in retirement ceremony's and funerals.

The Application Process

Applications submitted to MCEMS are first cleared through the Human Resources Department. After review, applications where minimum qualifications are met and the application deemed complete are forwarded to the EMS Division for internal review.

Important tip

Please make certain to include 10 years of employment with NO gaps. Verifying past employment is the longest portion of applicant screening.

Candidates selected for an interview will be notified by phone. Please make sure the telephone number listed on your application is current. Applicants will then be directed through the process.

Applicants must successfully pass all portions of the process.

After the completion of the process, the candidate will be extended a Conditional Offer of Employment. This offer is continent upon successful completion of:

  • Pre-employment Physical Examination
  • Urine Drug Screen
  • NCIC Fingerprint and Background Check
