EMS System

Manatee County Emergency Medical Services (MCEMS) protects over 740 square miles. Our organization is the sole 911 advanced life support transport organization for Manatee County. We operate out of 18 different EMS Stations strategically located throughout Manatee County. One 12-hour peak ambulance is deployed during peak call volume hours in the busy U.S. 41 corridor. The majority of our crews work a 24/48 hour shift with the exception being the 12-hour peak ambulance which operates on a 12-hour 9AM to 9PM schedule. The majority of our crews rotate through two assigned stations (one busy station and one moderate). Currently, there are five standalone stations.

Special Teams

Our service operates a variety of special teams and programs that will keep the best of paramedics and EMTs challenged. Programs include:

Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)

Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) that is like no other in the industry. Our team members train along side their law enforcement brothers and sisters and operate in a truly uniform fashion. Our paramedics attend a rigorous tactical medicine program and once credentialed, are issued a service weapon. Our paramedics train twice a month with the SWAT team and regularly participate in each SWAT activation.

Community Paramedicine

Manatee County Public Safety has a Community Paramedic Division that has been recognized by the State of Florida's EMS Advisory Council's Access to Care Committee as a model program. This new and emerging program is expanding resources and saving our local healthcare system hundreds of thousands of dollars while improving the quality of life or each patient served.

Marine Rescue Lifeguard Program

New to Manatee County and the Sun Coast of Florida is our Marine Rescue Lifeguard Paramedic Program. This new program takes a Florida certified paramedic and through on the job training, provides our paramedic with a lifeguard certification. Once fully credentialed, the lifeguard paramedic is assigned to a quick response Tahoe which patrols our beautiful coastline.

Bike Team (SABER)

Our Bike Team, better know locally as SABER, is utilized at large events such as parades, athletic events, and the County Fair. This team is comprised of specially trained EMTs and Paramedics that provide life saving emergency medical treatment to sick or injured individuals.

Firefighter Paramedic

Through a partnership with the Myakka City Fire Department, MCEMS provides specially trained firefighter paramedics to serve this beautiful, rural community in our county. Each Firefighter Paramedic is assigned to a fire engine and operates as one member of a two person crew. The firefighter paramedic acts primarily as the driver engineer but also operates vehicles such as brush trucks or other fire department apparatus. Adding advanced life support care to this region of Manatee County has substantially reduced ALS response times and improved patient outcomes.

Honor Guard

Our Honor Guard Team is first class! Operating in conjunction with the fire departments in Manatee County, our Honor Guard Team participates in several special events throughout the year. The Honor Guard has participated in parades, presented the Colors at Major League Baseball games, honored our fallen brothers and sisters in retirement ceremony's and funerals.
