Looking for a Special "One and Only" Pet this Valentine's Day?
Fee-Waived Adoptions for All Pets Through February 28 at MCAS

In the spirit of the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday, Manatee County Animal Services (MCAS) is offering fee-waived adoptions, in lieu of a donation to Friends of Manatee County Animal Services (FoMCAS), for all pets from February 13 -  February 28. Adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip and rabies certificate -- a value of over $300 in savings. Manatee County residents are required to license their new pet for an additional $20. At the time of this release, MCAS has 47 dogs and 13 cats at the shelter.

MCAS is utilizing this promotion to feature some of our dogs who are part of the "Single & Loving It" Pack. These dogs want to be your special "one and only" pet, and are best suited to be the only pet in a household -- that just means even more love for you! For the duration of the promotion, MCAS will be promoting these pets on social media with the hope of finding them loving, forever homes.

Some of the "Single & Loving It" dogs include:

  • Tex is a 1 year-old, tricolor, hound mix with a bright personality. He is smart, silly, inquisitive, and active. He enjoys long walks, and walks well on a leash. This big guy is an explorer at heart and he's ready for adventures with a family.
  • Bella is the queen of the ball, or at least the shelter! This 7 year-old is robust in size, as well as personality. She loves to go for walks and play outside. She is housebroken, too. She is larger than life, and her love will easily fill your heart.
  • Thelma, a 4 year-old, mixed breed, is a charmer! She’s potty-trained, walks well on a leash, and likes to relax and nap by your side. She adores people and is very affectionate. Thelma is good with children, so she will make an excellent family dog.
The Palmetto Adoption Center and Shelter, located at 305 25th Street West in Palmetto, and Manatee County Cat Town, located at 216 6th Avenue East, Bradenton, are available to visit by appointment only. You can make your online appointment by going to mymanatee.org/pets and filling out an adopter profile and reserving your appointment date.
Note: MCAS will be closed to the public on Monday, February 15 in observance of President's Day.

MCAS is Manatee County’s only open-admission shelter facility, taking in an average of 7 animals per day in 2020. The mission of MCAS is to maintain public health and safety through the enforcement of laws and ordinances related to animals, issue and maintain records for annual pet licensing, to promote responsible pet ownership, promote adoptions, and reduce pet overpopulation. MCAS continues to operate the Pet Pantry Program offering free food and supplies to pet owners facing financial and housing hardships. The Rescue Transfer Program continues to expand with a current roster of 130 rescues and shelters as partners accepting 665 pets into their care last year. For the 2020 calendar year, MCAS had a 93% save rate.
Adoption donations will benefit Friends of Manatee County Animal Services. FoMCAS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves as a fundraising arm whose mission is to work hand in hand with Manatee County Animal Services to enrich the lives of the shelter animals by raising funds to provide additional resources, medical care, and heartworm treatment. The funds raised by FoMCAS go directly to help the shelter animals and to help with initiatives at the shelter such as dog beds, turf for the play yards, enrichment items, and medical care.
