A new Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) flood insurance rate map will go into effect on August 10 which could impact homeowners’ insurance rates.
Most of FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Map changes in Manatee have occurred in the coastal areas and Gamble Creek (East Manatee).
To check if your property’s flood zone or base flood elevation (BFE) is changing, go to the
Flood Zone Information Tool
There, you can type in your address and receive a status of your current and proposed flood zones. Impacted property owners are encouraged to talk to their flood insurance agent and obtain flood insurance before August 10 to avoid potentially higher rates later.
