Literary Reference Center Plus

What is it?

  • Literary Reference Center Plus, powered by EBSCOhost, is a full-text database that combines information from major respected reference works, books, and literary journals as well as original content from EBSCO Publishing.

  • Content includes thousands of plot summaries, essays of literary criticism, author biographies, book reviews, poems and short stories, author interviews, and more.

Getting Started

Access Literary Reference Center plus through any web browser:

  1. Go to the library’s website and click on the orange Research & Learning button and then on the Articles, Research & Information button.

  2. From the A-Z Databases list, you can use the subject drop-down menu to filter the list by Books & Literature resources or find Literary Reference Center Plus alphabetically. Enter your library card barcode number where it asks for Patron ID. 

Using Literary Reference Center

  1. Use Literary Reference Center Plus by 1) typing in your query in the Basic Search field, 2) choosing Advanced Search for more options, or 3) browsing the list of publications, image collections and subjects covered in the database using the buttons in the upper left.

  2. Basic Search allows you to enter a word, phrase, or author’s name. Search suggestions will appear as you begin to type your term(s). Advanced Search gives you options to limit your search by such factors as document type, literary character, or genre. You can also browse different categories and featured collections on the main page such as Most Studied Authors.

  3. Click on an item in your results list to view the record which will display the publication information. Click PDF or HTML Full text on the left-hand side of the page to begin reading the article.

  4. Use the Tools Menu on the right-hand side of the page to print, email, or save the article. You can also use the cite button to create a citation.

  5. Click the Download PDF button in the upper left to download a copy of the article. 

  6. To use the “Add to Folder” and “Create Note” functions to save information for access at another time, you must register for an account or sign into EBSCOhost with a Google Account by clicking Sign-In at the top of the page.
