Getting Started

Access LinkedIn Learning through any web browser:

  1. Go to the library’s website and click on the orange Research & Learning button and then on the Articles, Research & Information button.

  2. Click on Careers & Testing and then on the LinkedIn Learning link. Click Get Started, where you will be prompted to log in with your Patron ID # (back of card) and PIN number to gain access.

  3. Click Sounds Good to complete sign-up and answer the optional questions for personalization. This includes choosing topics you are interested in and setting a weekly goal. If you do not wish to choose topics or set a goal, click Continue and Maybe Later to proceed to the main page.

Using LinkedIn Learning

  1. LinkedIn Learning’s homepage features popular videos for you based on the categories you chose at sign-up and other videos you have watched. You will also see your progress on your weekly goal, or the option to set a goal if you do not have one already. Videos you have saved or are in progress of watching are shown next to your goal.

  2. Type a subject into the search bar at the top of the page or click the Browse button to see all the topics available in LinkedIn Learning. Topics are organized into three main categories: Business, Creative, and Technology. Each category contains sub-topics, software skills, and learning paths. Click on a sub-topic or software to view available courses.

  3. Learning Paths are curated series of courses designed to teach you a specific skill. They contain several courses by various instructors. The Learning Path page will give you a brief overview, show you all the courses included, and tell you how long it will take to complete the entire path.

  4. Click on a video to go to the page for that lesson. The video will begin playing automatically. On the left, you will see the table of contents for the lesson. If you wish to save your progress and return to the lesson at another time, you can bookmark your place by clicking the bookmark icon next to the part of the lesson you are currently watching. You can access your bookmarks from the My Learning button at the top of the page, under the “Saved” tab.

  5. You can also save the course for later by clicking the plus icon found above the video player. Choose which of your collections you’d like to save the course to or click the “Create collection” button at the bottom of the box. You can access your saved courses from the My Learning button at the top of the page, under the “My Collections” tab.

  6. Beneath the video player, you will find an overview of the lesson, a notebook where you can take and save notes, and a transcript for those who prefer to read the lesson.

  7. Some courses include exercise files the instructor uses to teach the course. Under the video, in the Overview tab, click “Show all” next to Exercise Files to download these files. Once downloaded, unzip the folder by right-clicking and selecting either “Open” or “Extract All”. Many of these files will require the software application used to create them to run (for example, to use exercise files about Photoshop, you must have Photoshop installed on your computer). Software is not included in LinkedIn Learning.

  8. After completing a course, you may earn a certificate. These can be viewed on the lesson page, under the Overview tab. Click “Show all” next to Certificates and click “LinkedIn Learning Certificate” in the box. Next, click “Download PDF”. You can also download certificates from the My Learning button, under the “Learning History” tab. Click the 3 dots menu icon to the right of a course you’ve completed and click “Download Certificate”. Certificates are automatically generated at course completion and cannot be edited.
