Gale ebooks

WHAT IS IT?

  • Gale eBooks (formerly Gale Virtual Reference Library) is a collection of non-fiction eBooks including multi-volume encyclopedias, biographical collections, business plan handbooks, company history compilations, consumer health references, and specialized reference sources.

  • Subjects include arts and humanities, biography and genealogy, business and industries, general and consumer interests, government and political science, health and medicine, law, religion, science and technology, and social sciences.

GETTING STARTED

ACCESS GALE EBOOKS THROUGH ANY WEB BROWSER:

  1. Go to the library’s website and click on the orange Research & Learning button and then on the Articles, Research & Information button.

  2. From the A-Z Databases list, you can use the subject drop-down menu to filter the list by Books & Literature resources or find Gale eBooks alphabetically. In the sign-in box, enter your library card number where it asks for a password.

  3. Note: You may sign in with your own Google or Microsoft account if you would like to upload articles to your Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, but it is not required to use the database.

USING GALE EBOOKS

  1. Use Gale eBooks by 1) typing your query in the Search field, 2) clicking Advanced Search for advanced and subject search options or 3) browsing collections by subject.

  2. Click on your chosen book. The book’s page provides the publication information, table of contents, book index, and a list of figures and illustrations. Click View eBook to open the eBook reader. Click the Text View button to read in HTML format.

  3. Use the Search Within Publication box to search the book for specific terms. You can limit your search to the specific volume being viewed or expand it to include all volumes in the series.

  4. Use the buttons at the top to view the table of contents and download or print a pdf copy of specific sections. While in Text View, you can also upload pages to your Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive by clicking the Sent To button. While in Book View, you can zoom in and out and open full-screen mode.
