Lynda Tutorials Now Available for Free to Cardholders

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (November 6, 2018) – Now available free to library cardholders in good standing at Manatee Libraries: Lynda, a premier online learning resource which offers more than 4,000 courses, covering technical skills, creative techniques and business topics.

Lynda for Libraries allows customers to watch videos, from home or at one of Manatee County’s six libraries, in small, easy-to-manage chunks, and return to lessons at their convenience. Course offerings include:

• Art, graphic design, and music classes, teaching everything from 3D animation to engineering sound to the Adobe PhotoShop
• Help with computer programs, such as Microsoft Office
• Professional development courses, including public speaking and workplace issues
• Computer programming, IT management (e.g. Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X), and Web design
• Photography and video

 Lynda is the newest of several online resources freely available to customers of Manatee Libraries. Other resources include Mango, a self-paced language learning tool; OverDrive, which contains thousands of ebooks/audiobooks; Hoopla Digital, which provides access to ebooks, eaudiobooks and streaming movies/shows/music; EBSCO LearningExpress; Mergent Intellect, a comprehensive Dun & Bradstreet database; and Flipster, access to digital versions of popular magazines. Interim Library Services Manager, Glenda Lammers, said providing free educational tools is a priority of Manatee Libraries.

“We strive to provide high-quality, easy-to-access educational resources for our customers, available wherever the library customer wants to learn. Having access to professional tools prepared and lead by industry experts is especially important for those seeking new careers. Easing the financial burden is one of our priorities,” said Lammers.

A cardholder can get to by going to, clicking the “Research and Learning” tab, then the “Tutorials & Practice Tests” tab. After creating an account, which only requires a name and e-mail address, users are set. They can watch any videos, create playlists, download course files and bookmark pages. After signing up, cardholders can access Lynda at a library or on their desktop computers, tablets or mobile devices.

Lynda is owned by LinkedIn, a social network for the business community founded in 2003.
