Free Ukulele Lessons Start October 4
Posted on 10/01/2018
You may have heard that Manatee Libraries has started adding musical instruments to its growing list of special collections, including a few keyboards, accordions, drums, ukuleles and tambourines. To help people who are interested in playing instruments but might not know how or who may be a little rusty, Downtown Library will be offering free ukulele lessons for adults to get them started.

Ten sessions will be given weekly on Thursdays from 2 to 3:30 PM from October 4 through December 13.  Instructor Kathleen Reynolds has volunteered to teach the classes free of charge. Students will be taught chords and strumming patterns. The classes will feature Folk, such as Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul, and Mary, and Old Rock and Roll, such as the Everly Brothers and the Beach Boys.

Ukuleles from Manatee Libraries are available to library card holders on a first-come, first-served basis, and a hold request can be placed. Those without a ukulele are welcome to come to the first class.

Those interested can attend one or more class. Please register by emailing jyna.johnson@mymanatee.org or calling 941-748-5555, x6308.

About the instructor: Reynolds started playing musical instruments after teaching dance for 25 years, beginning with a penny whistle and concertina and for fun, then picked up a ukulele eight years ago. She has played in jam sessions for six years.
