A department landing page typically consists of:
Featured Hero Image
The Featured Hero Image is the photo spanning the top of your page.
Featured photo requirements
Text is not permitted on the hero image itself. Use a regular photo and the caption copy to promote an upcoming event, or highlight the event in the content widget or featured content area.
You must credit the photographer in the caption if using a citizen's photo from a past photo contest.
Featured Hero Image Size: 1400x500
- Note: The top will be partially covered by the mega menu, and the bottom may be covered if you add a caption.
- Always check how your featured image resizes on a mobile device.
Captions requirements
Captions can be added to the blue bar at the bottom of the image.
Caption length: We recommend keeping your captions short. Do not allow your caption to extend to a second line, or it will cover up most of your photo on mobile. You can also add a link.
Please consult with the Site Administrator before changing your image. The Web Team will provide all departments with initial options for their featured hero image. If you have ideas for what image you would like to use, please send them to [email protected].

Page title and introductory paragraph
Page title
The page title should be your department name.
Introductory paragraph
The introductory paragraph should be a maximum of 2-3 sentences. Avoid jargon and acronyms. Introduce your department/division as you would explain it to your grandmother.
Think mobile: More than one-third of our users are viewing our site on mobile devices. This text will take up most of their screen when they get to this page. Make it worth it!
Department Quick links
The four quick links with icons should represent the top things your customers are looking for. This could be the top-visited pages, the top tasks users are trying to accomplish, or the important sections or divisions of your department.
Think mobile: Quick links are especially important for our mobile visitors, who won’t see the sidebar navigation unless they click the menu icon. What are they coming to your site for? Make those tasks an easy click with these buttons.
Learn how to add and edit quick links in the Department Quick Links portlet.
Navigation & contact information
Navigation will automatically populate. If you have questions or concerns about navigation, contact the Site Administrator.
Contact us
Contact information should be your department’s general contact information. You may change this information if there is different contact information relevant to your page. Contact information includes:

Optional portlets
To maintain consistency across the website, all departments (and some divisions) use the same Department Page page type. The Department Page template includes the following portlets:
Few departments will use all these portlets. You may move around the order of the portlets, or minimize the portlets you won't be using. Please don't delete any of the portlets.
Please contact an administrator if you would like to make significant changes to the layout or design of your Department Page.
