Library Display Policy

To provide a welcoming and engaging experience for all patrons, the Manatee County Public Library System provides spaces for displays, exhibits, and community information centers at all branch locations.

The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for all displays throughout the system to ensure the promotion of the library’s mission. The Library recognizes the importance of providing the community with access to factual and trustworthy information, as well as educational resources that uphold the principles of intellectual freedom, while building connection and a culture of belonging for all visitors.

The Library creates its displays with all citizens of Manatee County in mind, and as a representation of the diverse fabric of backgrounds that are represented therein. In correlation with the Collection Development Policy, the Library endeavors to include a vast array of displays and exhibits that appeal to all ages and interests. These may include books, media, and other resources.

While the final responsibility for all library displays and exhibits lies with the Library Services Manager, the daily responsibility is shared by library employees throughout the system. Library staff will be mindful of age-appropriate locations in the library, while striving to include a wide variety of relevant topics and viewpoints.

Pursuant to Board of County Commissioners Resolution 05-30, materials loaned to the Library to be displayed must be owned or have been produced by a Manatee County resident or entity or be deemed by the County to be relevant in some way to the history, industry, culture, or geography of Manatee County. Display areas shall not be used for commercial purposes.

Additional guidelines apply for Display Installation and Removal.
