What is it?

  • Live tutors available from 8AM-10PM, 361 days a year. (NOTE: closed New Year’s, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas)  

Getting Started

Access Tutor.com through any web browser:

  1. Go to the library’s website and click on the orange Research & Learning button and then on the Tutorials and Practice Tests button.
  2. Click Tutor.com. Enter your library card barcode number and click Submit. You can now enter your question and get connected with a tutor within a few minutes
  3. You can access basic features on Tutor.com such as live tutoring and watching basic math and English videos from the Princeton Review with only your library card. However some features, such as submitting a paper for review and accessing your previous session history and chat transcripts are only available with a free Tutor.com account. Click “Create an Account” in the upper right to set up your free account.

Connect with a Tutor Now

  1. Choose the category of your question by selecting the “Topic” from the drop-down list and narrow it down by selecting a “Subject” from the next drop-down list.
  2. Choose your grade level and preferred library.
  3. If you want to be able to speak to your tutor using your computer  or over the phone (toll free), check the box next to “I want a tutor with voice-chat capabilities”.
  4. Enter your question in the box and click “Attach a file” to add any files you want the tutor to see.
  5. Click the “Connect Now” button. Average tutoring sessions are 20 minutes.

Tutor’s Classroom

  • Once you are connected with a tutor, you will enter the tutor’s classroom.
  • Classroom features include a virtual whiteboard where you can both draw out problems, graph paper and a graphing calculator, common math formulas you can insert into the work space, a text editor where you can both work on a document simultaneously, and the chat box.
  • At the end of your session, you can choose to have the transcript of your session e-mailed to you. If you have a Tutor.com account, you can also find your chat transcripts under “Previous Sessions” for up to one year.

Other Tools

  • Submit a paper and get feedback within 12 hours. This includes resumes and cover letters for adults. Or drop off a math question for a step-by-step solution within 24 hours. No more than 3 of each may be awaiting response in your queue at once.
  • Take practice tests for multiple subjects. After the quiz, connect with a tutor directly from the quiz review to get help with questions you don’t understand
  • View prep materials and practice exams for standardized tests including SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT, as well as for AP subjects.

Additional Features

  • At the end of your session, you can choose to have the transcript of your session e-mailed to you. If you have a Tutor.com account, you can find your chat transcripts under “My Sessions”.
  • Rate tutors and add them to your favorites list. See when a favorite tutor is online from “My Account” under “My Favorite Tutors”.
  • Both English and Spanish speaking tutors are available.
  • Tutor.com is also accessible for individuals with disabilities.
  • Tutors are rigorously tested on subject knowledge, must pass a background check, and are trained to work with children with learning differences.
