Posted on 08/29/2018
Multimedia cornerSouth Manatee Library will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, September 13, celebrating the opening of its new library multimedia corner made possible by a WEDU PBS Phyllis A. Ensign Library Corner Grant.

The library corner grant is one way WEDU is honoring Ensign’s $4 million donation to the station made in November 2015 to support the creation of a new local series, pay for internships and provide educational equipment and supplies for teacher workshops and community outreach.

At least 16 multimedia library corners are being provided to libraries throughout WEDU’s 16-County viewing area in Ensign’s name. The first six library corners at Lake Wales, Safety Harbor, New Port Richey, Sarasota, Mulberry and Tampa public libraries have already opened. In addition to South Manatee, Hardee Library will be opening this Fall.

People of all ages are invited to attend South Manatee’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 13, which will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, and will feature a special appearance by Super Why, the television character who gives children the power to read.

Glenda Lammers, Library Services Assistant Manager, is happy that one of the six libraries of the Manatee County Public Library System will be getting the corner.

“We are honored to have been selected by WEDU as the recipient of the library corner. Mrs. Ensign’s love of reading, love of children and love of libraries is a wonderful legacy we are happy to share,” said Lammers.

South Manatee Library is located at 6081 26th Street West, Bradenton 34207. For more information, please contact Kelly Foster at or 941-748-5555, x6307.
