Florida Library Association Selects Manatee Libraries for Two Awards

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (April 13, 2018) - Manatee Libraries is happy to announce that it has added two more awards to its list: Florida Library Association’s 2018 Innovation Award for its 805 Lit + Art Journal and Libraries Mean Business Award for their Information Services team’s beneficial services to local businesses and jobseekers.

805 was the first literary and art journal published by a library. Featuring 100% original works by creators worldwide, its high quality, art, poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction has received national recognition in both the library and writing worlds. 805 reaches across borders to deliver high quality content to subscribers in over a dozen different countries.

Manatee Libraries’ Information Services team meets the ongoing needs of businesses and jobseekers through a wide range of programming, including SCORE Small Business Workshop series, a Small Business Expo in conjunction with Manatee County Redevelopment and Economic Opportunity (REO) Department and a Hiring Fair; business walks in conjunction with community partners; one-to-one business resource training; outreach presentations; and resource guides.

This past year, Manatee Libraries was visited by nearly 850,000 customers who made use of its resources over 3.9 million times (a record high). Downloads of their digital ebook/eaudio/movies have continued to double each year, while technical training and computer assistance were up 16%. The 47,000 customers who attended their wide variety of informational and educational programs and events reflect an increase of 130% since 2006.
