Special Initiatives


The Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunity and Revived Economies of the Gulf States (RESTORE) Act was created following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, which caused extensive environmental and economic damage to five states in the US Gulf Coast, including Florida. The RESTORE Act directed assessed penalties to the impacted states under several categories administered at Federal, State and Local levels. Read more about the RESTORE Act

Palmetto Trails Network Plan

The Palmetto Trails Network Plan (PTNP) is a regional system of transportation improvements made up of six programs to reestablish connections lost through the construction of US 41 through the heart of Palmetto. The PTNP will be a network of high-quality multimodal facilities in the City of Palmetto that will restore access to public schools, a youth center, over a dozen neighborhoods, seven parks, a conference center, local employment centers, and a public transit transfer station. The 3.6 miles of multimodal improvements proposed in the grant application connect these existing destinations and preserve the longevity of existing infrastructure.
