Subsection 125.01(k) Florida Statutes, and Chapter 85-457, Laws of Florida
On August 18, 2015, the Utilities Department presented the Board of County Commissioners with a proposal for solid waste rate increases. Based on the current status of the Solid Waste operations including the collection and landfill services, staff is recommending rate increases of: $4/ton for the landfill tip fee, and service fee increases of 5.29% (average) for residential collection increase and a not to exceed increase of 5.29% for commercial customers.
There are two primary reasons for the recommended rate increases. The first reason is that there have not been rate increases in a number of years. The tip fee has remained at $36/ton since October 2007 and the last service fee increase was effective November 2011. The second reason is the increases in the CPI expense for the waste haulers. The CPI, as defined in the waste hauler contracts, has increased a total of 6.9% since 2012; however, the residential monthly fee has remained the same.
