Initial discussion of the 2014 Legislative Platform.
The 2014 Legislative Session begins March 4, 2014. Many of the coming session's issues will be determined during Committee meetings which will begin on Sept. 23.
Staff has compiled a list of state and local issues for the Board to consider as part of its 2014 State Legislative Platform, a document that articulates the Board's position on various proposals that are likely to come before state leaders next spring. The platform is also a guiding document for the local issues Manatee hopes to accomplish at the state level.
The draft presented on Sept. 10 is an amalgam of past issues on our platform, new issues that appear to be percolating at the state level and local issues that require some form of state intervention.
Staff will take feedback from the Board at the Sept. 10 meeting, add to it issues from the Council of Governments and an upcoming Florida Association of Counties conference and return in October with a final platform for consideration and adoption.
