Approval of Interlocal Agreement for Longboat Key 911 fees between Manatee County and Sarasota County.
Section 365.173 Florida Statutes
Florida Statutes define how 911 fees are collected in the State of Florida by establishing that all fees collected for public telephone service are paid into a state fund to be distributed to counties for the provision of Emergency 911 services to its citizens. The allocation of funds is based upon the number of telephone subscribers in each county.
The Town of Longboat Key uniquely falls within boundaries of both Manatee County and Sarasota County. The State of Florida distributes funds based on county of residence, as Manatee County was providing 911 services to all of Town of Longboat Key. Manatee County would invoice Sarasota County annually for the fees based on a subscriber count provided by the telephone company.
On July 26, 2011, the Board approved an Interlocal Agreement between Manatee County and Sarasota County for the re-distribution of the fees received by Sarasota County for Town of Longboat Key residents.
On October 5, 2015, the Sarasota County Board approved an Interlocal Agreement between Sarasota County Government and the Town of Longboat Key for Sarasota county government to perform all law enforcement, fire/rescue, emergency medical dispatch services, and related communications services for The Town of Longboat Key.
On April 1, 2016, Sarasota County Public Safety Communications Center completed the service transition with Manatee County, and assumed the responsibility for all 911 call taking and dispatching for the Town of Longboat Key police and fire departments. This transfer of responsibilities for 911 call taking now requires changes to the 2011 Agreement with Sarasota County to allow the redistribution of 911 fees to Sarasota County for subscribers within Manatee County.
