FY 2017 Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program Funding Agreement

Authorization for the Chairman to execute the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program Funding Agreement for FY 2017 between Manatee County and the City of Punta Gorda for county share of funding in the amount of $5,000.
- On January 15, 1995, Manatee County joined with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region IV, the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), The South Florida Water Management District, the Department of Community Affairs, the Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission, the Central Florida Regional Planning Council, the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council, Peace Manasota Water Supply Authority, Lee County, Charlotte County, Sarasota County, Hardee County, Polk County, Desoto County, and the cities and towns of Bartow, Bonita Springs, Ft. Myers, Sanibel, Punta Gorda, Venice, North Port, Cape Coral, Winter Haven, Ft. Myers Beach, and Arcadia to financially participate as non-federal sponsors of the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program (CHNEP) to prepare products and schedules under a work plan to develop a Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan for the Charlotte Harbor Estuary and Watershed. The Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council administered the personnel and contract management compliance requirements of the program up until October 1, 2014, when the host agency was changed to the City of Punta Gorda.
- Manatee County's annual financial share to the program is $5,000 based upon portioned share between the members. The $5,000 is budgeted each year in the Parks and Natural Resources budget and released under the annual funding agreement with the CHNEP through the City of Punta Gorda.
- The FY 2017 Agreement and scope of work directly benefit Manatee County by environmental stewardship, wetland protection and restoration, community outreach and education activities to enhance fisheries and living resources, recreational management, tracking relevant legislation, letters of support as appropriate to legislators and policy makers, presenting the legislative agenda to State and Federal Legislative Delegations through the CHNEP study area, and public involvement activities.
