Three prior appointments for the Manatee County Library Board of Trustees expired for the representatives of the City of Palmetto, the City of Bradenton, and the Island Communities on January 31, 2016. The Board members whose terms expired include Brenda Booth, representing the City of Palmetto, Marianne Barnebey, representing the City of Bradenton, and Beverly Neville, representing the Island Communities.
The members representing the City of Palmetto, the City of Bradenton, and the Island Communities will be appointed by the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners.
All Library Board of Trustees serve a 4-year term.
In a letter dated January 26, 2016, the City of Palmetto advised Manatee County that they had reappointed Brenda Booth as their representative to the Library Board of Trustees. Ms. Booth has served on the Board since July 2015 and is an experienced librarian with more than 10 years working with the Manatee County Public Library System.
In an email dated January 7, 2016, the City of Bradenton advised Manatee County that they have nominated Councilman Patrick Roff as their representative to the Library Board of Trustees.
During the County's advisory board recruitment process, two applications were received for the Island Communities' representative, Ms. Beverly Neville and Ms. Mary Pat Swamy. The Mayor of Holmes Beach nominated Ms. Swamy as their representative. However, the Island representative must meet a residency requirement and although Ms. Swamy continues to serve on the Island Friends Board she did move off of the Island last year. No response was received from the City of Bradenton Beach, the Town of Longboat Key, and the City of Anna Maria.
