Background Discussion

June 18, 2013, the voters of Manatee County approved the establishment of an Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemption (EDATE).

On May 13, 2014, a Work Session was held with the Board to discuss economic development ad valorem tax exemptions to new businesses and for expansion of existing businesses per applicable law.

A public hearing is requested at this time to consider adoption of Ordinance 14-031 which would provide an additional incentive in the Economic Development toolbox by providing economic development ad valorem tax exemption (EDATE) to qualified new businesses wishing to relocate to Manatee County and to qualified existing businesses wishing to expand in Manatee County to foster economic growth and increase employment.

A Resolution to establish EDATE policy guidelines and application process has also been prepared for approval.
