Authorization to advertise and set a public hearing on March 24, 2015, to consider adoption of Ordinance 15-07, amending Subsection 2-22-7 of the Manatee County Code instituting and creating a 35 mph speed limit zone to include Mulholland Road.

Enabling/Regulating Authority
Florida State Statutes: Chapter 316.189(2) - Establishment of Municipal and County Speed Zones

Background Discussion
  • In response to a citizen's request for additional speed limit signs on Mulholland Road, staff conducted a traffic investigation to evaluate the area.  A Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy also requested clarification on the speed limit.
  • Staff conducted a speed analysis to determine an appropriate and reasonable speed limit.  Consideration was given to the roadway conditions, roadway functional classification, and adjacent land use.
  • After reviewing the above roadway, staff found a need to post an appropriate speed limit.  Based on the review and for consistency, staff proposes a 35 mph speed limit along Mulholland Road (from Fort Hamer Road to the dead end west of Twin Rivers Trail).
