The general surety bond is adjusted every time a new operating permit is accepted by the Board. Usually, this is every 5 years, however, Mosaic added a new tract to the Four Corners Mine and, therefore, submitted for a new operating permit which was accepted on January 7, 2016. Mosaic now has 60 days to submit the new general surety bond to Manatee County. According to Ordinance 04-39, “The applicant shall file with the Board a surety bond or bonds payable to the County with a principal amount equal to five hundred dollars for each acre of land to be disturbed during the term of the operating permit.” By this action, Mosaic will remain in compliance with this Ordinance.
The increase has been reviewed and approved by the Parks and Natural Resources Department. It has been determined that the amount of $300,225.00 is sufficient to secure the mining requirements at the Four Corners Mine for the 5 year term of Operating Permit No. R-16-001.
