Chapter 2-24, Manatee County Code of Ordinances
Florida Statute 125
- On July 8, 2015, Parks and Natural Resources held a meeting to gather information and discuss the emerging issues associated with the Coquina South boat ramp/bayside park. In attendance were staff of the Manatee County Public Safety and Property Management Departments, City of Bradenton Beach Police and Building Departments, and City of Bradenton Beach Mayor, Jack Clarke.
- Reduced functional efficiency as a boat ramp, the lack of capacity during commercial fishing seasons and holidays, and concerns over the increasing mixed uses of the site were discussed. The discussion addressed the whole of County owned property ranging from the Coquina South boat ramp/bayside to the Coquina North boat ramp a quarter mile to the north, inclusive of the shell access road along Gulf Drive.
- A key concern identified during this meeting was that Coquina Bayside, as it is currently utilized, provides waterside access which places powered recreational and commercial vessels, personal watercraft, kayaks, and swimmers in close proximity to one another. This convergence occurs between a boat ramp and a commercial loading dock immediately adjacent to a pass subjected to strong tidal currents.
- This presentation is intended to inform the BCC of the proposed actions to initiate remedies to the issues faced at the site.
