Action Requested
  • Adoption of Resolution R-17-041 accepting the reallocated grant award from the Department of Health - Manatee;
  • Authorization for the County Administrator to execute Amendment 2 to Contract MA400 between the State of Florida, Department of Health, and Manatee County Emergency Medical Services; and
  • Adoption of Budget Resolution B-17-044.

Background Discussion

The Community Paramedic Program provides a focus on medically vulnerable population(s) and attempts to redirect clients to appropriate resources as an alternative to the emergency department, thus reducing healthcare costs. Community Paramedicine was presented to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) in two workshop presentations in September 2015 and a follow up presentation was delivered in February 2016 with an update to the BCC in October 2016.

Through a partnership with the Florida Department of Health - Manatee, a grant application was submitted to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and subsequently funded with a total award amount of $818,000. The Manatee County Division of EMS was named as a subrecipient with an initial award amount of $361,323.94 with no match funding required.

The Florida Department of Health – Manatee has reallocated an additional $150,683.43 to be awarded to the Community Paramedicine Program.  Funds will be utilized to continue the establishment of a robust collaborative Community Paramedicine Program.

An Amendment to the original contract has been written to reflect the additional $150,683.43 award.
