Background Discussion

The Silver Sneakers and Prime Programs are administered by American Healthways, LLC, which manages and maintains a network in our area for health plans and/or employer groups that would like to have the G.T. Bray Recreation Center as a participating provider for both programs.

The objective of entering into this non-exclusive agreement with American Healthways, LLC, is to increase membership opportunities at the G.T. Bray Recreation Center. This will allow American Healthways eligible members to utilize the G.T. Bray Recreation Center and be covered by their Health Plan.

Since the new G.T. Bray Recreation Center opened more than two years ago, we have had a number of people inquire about the Silver Sneakers and Prime Programs.

This agreement does not exclude the Manatee County Parks and Recreation Department from participating in similar Health Care Programs.

The Silver Sneakers Program is for individuals 65 years and older and the Prime Program is for anyone between the ages of 18 - 64.

The Parks and Recreation Department will be reimbursed for each health care member that uses the facility. Under this program, American Healthway Services will pay the Parks and Recreation Department $3.00/per Silver Sneakers member visit - up to $30.00/month; and $3.50/per Prime member visit - up to $35.00/month.

Both the City of Clearwater and the City of Largo have an agreement with American Healthway Services, LLC, for these two programs. Clearwater expected 300 members to participate in the first year and after the first year, their department had 1,060 members participating.

Thererfore, we are recommending the Board of County Commissioners authorize execution of the attached agreement with American Healthways Services, LLC.
