Background Discussion
The 2013 Legislative Session will be held March 5, 2013 through May 3, 2013. Staff would like the Board to approve its 2013 platform by Oct. 30, so that staff may begin discussing the Board's legislative priorities with Manatee delegation members in upcoming months.
In response to recent legislation, and in preparation for potential legislation, staff is proposing several new items for this year's platform. These and are indicated by an underlined font.
Several high profile issues will come into sharper focus closer to the 2013 session, and position statements may be premature at this time. To indicate their importance, these items have been reserved as "place holders" and they are written in italicized fonts.
Items with asterisks** indicate past support from the Council of Governments. Staff asked the Council to consider these items and others at the Oct. 2 Council of Governments meeting.
