Background Discussion
This award is presented in recognition of outstanding service achievement in the field of heroism. While on his way home from work, Alex passed a gentleman that was pulled off the side of road and attempting to flag down help for his wife that was in active labor. Mr. Gardiner pulled over to see what assistance was needed. Noticing that the baby was delivering with the umbilical cord tight around its neck, Alex relied on his training and worked to untangle the cord and clear the newborn's airway. After a few tense moments, he was able to get the baby breathing and gain color. The following day, Alex was able to check on the mother and baby and find them happily doing well.
