Background Discussion

On December 22, 2016, the Charging Party, Ramonita Colon, filed a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), against Manatee County.  Ms. Colon was employed in Manatee County’s Public Works Department from February 9, 2015 until October 25, 2016.  Ms. Colon claims that she resigned from her position due to an unacceptable work environment and does not wish to return to Manatee County for employment.

The claim proceeded to a voluntary mediation on April 26, 2017.  The County Attorney’s Office believes this settlement proposal is in the best interests of the County in order to resolve this EEOC charge and avoid future litigation-related expenses.
