Chapter 403, Florida Statutes
During wet weather season, there exists a need to dispose of excess treated wastewater (i.e. reclaimed) in accordance with DEP rules. Conditions are such that compliance is not always attainable. Class V injection wells would rectify those conditions ensuring compliance.
In 2012 discussions began taking place with DEP regarding future and existing needs for waste stream disposal of various types in Manatee County, including industrial enterprise, Piney Point wastewater, and the future brine from the proposed RO facility. Concluding that a Class V injection well would be needed and applied for, construction was deemed most economical and advantageous if completed sooner rather than later.
An original concept was presented to the Board of County Commissioners during a March 5, 2013, work session. Permits were applied for November 25, 2013, and a public meeting was held on April 16, 2014, for public input. The deadline for public input has been extended as a result of the public meeting for all comments to be received.
