Background Discussion
The Addictions Crisis Task Force, led by Drug Free Manatee (DFM) and its staff, has established consistent representation from leaders in addictions prevention, treatment, research, education, policy, law enforcement, and advocacy to proactively address addiction disorder within Manatee County. Their successful work has garnered them recognition at a national level and greatly impacted the community in preventing the incidence of addiction within the County. In an era of addiction, their work has assisted in disseminating accurate and evidence-based strategies, cultivated a shared understanding among various professionals of addiction as a disease, and created a community with a common perspective in how to prevent incidence of addiction "up stream."

Drug Free Manatee and the Addictions Crisis Task Force was invited to lead the Lake Eerie College of Osteopathic Medicine's annual Research Day on the 25th anniversary of the College to faculty and students in the disciplines of pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, and health management. DFM was invited to lead this Research Day at LECOM due to their ability to demonstrate "Inter-Professionalism" for which they are a local leader.

Their substantive work in creating an environment to explore all options to address addiction and the opioid-overdose epidemic is to be commemorated by Manatee County, as they continue to impact those with addiction disorders.
