Action Requested

RECOMMENDED MOTION:

Based upon the staff report, evidence presented, comments made at the Public Hearing, and finding the request to be CONSISTENT with the Manatee County Comprehensive Plan and the Manatee County Land Development Code, I move to recommend ADOPTION of Manatee County Zoning Ordinance No. Z-14-04, as recommended by staff.

Background Discussion
  • The request is for a rezone from A (General Agriculture) to EX (Extraction).
  • The site is located at the northwest intersection of State Road 62 and County Road 39 and is located adjacent to the existing Four Corners Mine to the west.
  • Mosaic Fertilizer seeks to rezone the 272 acres ( known ad the G&D Farms Addition) to Extraction to allow phosphate mining. This request is accompanied by a Master Mining Plan (Resolution R-15-059) to allow mining of the resource on site.
  • The rezone request appears to be appropriate given the surrounding uses and zoning. The addition of the site will be a logical extension of the existing Four Corners Mine to the west. Therefore, staff recommend approval of the request to rezone the site from A to EX.
