Background Discussion

Two prior appointments for the Manatee County Library Board of Trustees will expire for the representatives of the County At Large and the Unincorporated County on January 31, 2018.  The Board members whose terms shall expire include Mrs. Artis Wick, representing Manatee County At Large, and Mr. Myron Robinson, representing Unincorporated Manatee County.

The members representing the County At Large and Unincorporated County will be appointed by the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners.

All Library Board of Trustees serve a 4-year term.

Three applications were received seeking to fill the one available County At Large position, which includes the application by the current Board member representing the County At Large to serve an additional term.  The applicants are as follows:

  • An application for Advisory Board/Committee/Commission was received from Mrs. Artis Wick dated October 25, 2017.  Mrs. Wick is a retired librarian and has served on the Library Board of Trustees since January 2010 to the present and is seeking re-appointment.  Mrs. Wick is the current Board Chairperson and effectively advocates for Manatee Libraries.  She has extensive knowledge of research and the value of libraries as a former librarian working at the Ringling Museum of Art, and is a current member of the American Library Association and Art Research Library Society.
  • An application for Advisory Board/Committee/Commission was received from Mr. George Barford dated December 15, 2017, seeking to fill the available County At Large appointment.  Mr. Barford is a retired member of the Florida Bar and has served on the Board of Directors of the Manatee County Library Foundation along with various City of Anna Maria committees and the Roser Church.
  • An application for Advisory Board/Committee/Commission was received from Ms. Jacqueline Taxdal dated December 6, 2017, seeking to fill the available County At Large appointment.  Ms. Taxdal is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Senior Advisor who has also volunteered with several community organizations such as Yummy Stuff Club (Treasurer), Citizens for Better Schools (Deputy Treasurer), Manatee Chamber of Commerce, and AARP tax aide.

The current Board member representing Unincorporated Manatee County was the sole applicant for this position:

  • Mr. Myron Robinson submitted his application for Advisory Board/Committee/Commission on November 14, 2017.  He has successfully served on the Library Board of Trustees since 2010 and is seeking re-appointment.  He actively participates on several boards and community organizations in a variety of leadership, marketing, and administration capacities.
