Background Discussion

During the FY2014 Budget Work Sessions, members of the Board of County Commissioners requested more information and detail on Non Profit funding, service agreements, and outcome measurements. In December, the conversation began with the first Work Session focused on Non Profit funding.  Additionally, the BCC requested a Work Session be held focusing on Drug Court, including the program, services, outcomes, and budget.

The FY2014 county budget for Drug Court is $737,839 of which $141,460 is funded through a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) and the balance from General Revenue. The Drug Court budget includes allocations for the Court, Manatee Glens, the Public Defender, and the State Attorney. Detailed budget information can be found on the attachment which includes increases to the program over the last two fiscal years.

Drug Court representatives will discuss the process and metrics of the local program. Speakers include Chief Judge, Andrew Owens;
Court Administrator, Walt Smith; State Attorney, Ed Brodsky; Chief Assistant State Attorney, Lon Arend; Public Defender, Larry Eger; and
Drug Court Manager, Alfred James.
