Action Requested
Adoption of Resolution R-13-019 authorizing the Manatee County Community Services Department to continue to administer the Manatee County Prescription Assistance Program with revised eligibility criteria; making related findings; providing for severability; providing for an effective date; and rescinding R-10-167.

Background Discussion
- In 1982, the County Commission adopted policies for Indigent Medical Assistance through Community Services Department.
- R-86-277 provides clear and lawful authority for Manatee County Community Services department to conduct certain programs as may be established by resolution and adopted by the Manatee County Board of County commissioners, to promote the health, safety, and welfare of Manatee County citizens.
- R-10-167 revisions to policy and procedures established guidelines pertaining to eligibility for, and assistance with the purchase of medically necessary prescriptions for permanent residents of Manatee County living at or below the current Federal Poverty Level.
- Summary of changes to the Resolution include Administrative items such as definitions and clarification of eligibility to provide consistency with other aid programs and General Provisions to extend eligibility from 3 months to 6 months, to allow prescriptions written by licensed healthcare professionals who are not doctors to be honored, establishing a definition and maintenance criteria for clients "grand fathered" into the program, and the addition of language requiring that only pharmacies under county contract be used.
