Adoption of Resolution R-15-144 amending R-14-173 and providing for changes of Recreation Membership, Daily Guest Pass, and Swim Lesson fees, and clarification of the Rain Check Policy.
On December 16, 2014, the Board approved the adoption of Resolution R-14-173, combining seven fee rate resolutions, post-merger of the Parks & Recreation and Natural Resources Departments, revising and adding fees as well as operating procedures in the Master Fee Schedule.
The GT Bray Recreation Center is a County owned and operated facility available to the citizens of Manatee County. The intent is not to compete with private organizations and neighboring communities, but to provide access and services at a cost affordable to all, thereby, affording the opportunity for more citizens to enjoy our facility and attract the 18-50 year old demographic, including millennials. Current membership mainly consists of the senior population.
Staff recommends the current monthly recreation membership fee be lowered to $20/month and the Daily Guest Pass fee lowered to $3.00.
Credits will be issued to current recreation members who have passes valid more than one month past the effective date of the new fee, per the approved refund/credit policy. Credits can be used to extend current memberships. The new fee will also streamline the fee schedule, allowing removal of several individual monthly fees that are over $20/month and daily fees over $3.00.
Also, members will be offered swim lessons for $10 less than non-members at the GT Bray Aquatic Center.
The Rain Check Policy has always been cited in the Fee Schedule, but never explained or listed in policies. The policy will now be clarified and referenced in the Fee Schedule.
Sales tax shall be charged in addition to the fees where no exemption applies and the tax has been imposed by law.
