Manatee County Fleet Services receives international recognition

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (May 20, 2010) – Awards for excellence continue to crowd the trophy case for Manatee County Fleet Services.

For the 7th year in a row, Government Fleet magazine has selected Manatee County Fleet Services as one of the top 100 public sector fleets in North America, out of an estimated 38,000 across the continent.

Manatee’s ranking could become even more impressive on June 21 when the top 100 will be ranked in order during a convention in Austin, Texas. Last year, the Fleet Services division was ranked #11 out of more than 38,000 government fleets around North America.

“We want to sincerely thank you for setting an example of excellence in the public sector,” said Eric Bearly, the magazine’s associate publisher.

"The dynamic leadership, initiative, and overall professional performance continue to set Manatee County's Team Fleet apart from their peers,” said Public Works Director Ron Schulhofer. “One organizational trait that the citizens of Manatee County can be most pleased with is, even after a string of accomplishments that have garnered accolades from the industry, the people in Fleet Services continue to seek efficiencies and improvements to our top-ranked operation."

Fleet Services Manager Mike Brennan gave all the credit to a hardworking group of technicians, material management staff and administrative professionals who always get the job done safely and on time.

“We have a good, solid program here,” Brennan said. “Our staff is highly talented and very dedicated to their position and the performance of the division. It humbles me to be working with a bunch of professionals of this caliber, people who can perform at these levels consistently.”

Last year, Fleet was named Fleet Master of the Year by the Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP), a national group of fleet management professionals who work in private and public sector construction, utilities, energy, mining and other areas.
