The Manatee County Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Team, coordinated by the County Fire Chiefs’ Association, provides on scene management, response coordination, and compliance monitoring of federal/State regulations for various fire, EMS, environmental, and law enforcement personnel who respond to hazardous materials incidents and emergency releases.
The team is focused on quality training of first responders and maintains 7 fully equipped HAZMAT rapid response trailers stocked with personal protective equipment, environmental spill supplies, HAZMAT foam, decontamination tents, and a wide variety of meters used to detect hazardous solids, liquids, or gases.
Ongoing safety education is provided to first responders, businesses, and the public including training courses, exercises, and annual drills. HAZMAT team representatives actively participate during EOC activations as an emergency support function (ESF-10.)
