Teen Recycled Fashion Show Registration Now Open!

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (February 18, 2016) – Manatee County Public Libraries announced today that registration is now open for the Third Annual Teen Recycled Fashion Show taking place on Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Downtown Central Library.

Manatee County Public Libraries’ popular event, in collaboration with The Friends of the Library and Keep Manatee Beautiful, gives teenagers the opportunity to live the day in the life of a fashion designer and/or model.

Contestants make their own original fashion using recycled or repurposed materials and present their creation on the runway in front of a live audience where a panel of judges select a winner based on creativity, presentation and use of recycled materials.

Contestants must be no younger than 13 and no older than 19 and can submit as an individual or as a group. They may model their own creations or find a model to wear the piece.

GUTI, Bradenton-based beauty and wellness academy, will be back this year to do hair and makeup for free for contestants and models. Make up is being donated by Brandy Harlan of Mary Kay Cosmetics.

The registration form can be accessed from the Library's Recycled Fashion Show page. It can be submitted online or printed and dropped off at any of the six library locations. Registrations must be completed by Friday, April 8, 2016.

Contestants are asked to attend one of the two Pre-Show meetings scheduled on Monday, April 11, and Wednesday, April 13, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., in the Manatee County Downtown Central Library.

“We are pleased to offer this annual event that inspires and encourages our local teens to employ their creativity using household recycling to make beautiful fashions to be displayed on stage,” said Ava Ehde, Library Services Manager. “It also provides an opportunity to tie in other recycling programs, such as our Recycled Robots Contest, the entries of which will also be on display during the Fashion Show.”
