Manatee Libraries to Distribute “White Out Summer Hunger” Food Bags

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (June 23, 2016) – The Food Bank of Manatee and Manatee Libraries are excited to announce that they are partnering in the White Out Summer Hunger project this summer.  Beginning Friday, June 24, and until August 5, local children in need can go to any of the six public library facilities on Fridays and ask for a food bag that will provide basic meals and snacks to nourish them during the weekend.

Over half of Manatee County children qualify for free or reduced-priced meals during the school year.  During the summer, the School District of Manatee County continues to provide meals for children during the week but not on the weekends. The White Out Summer Hunger program helps ensure children will not go hungry on Saturdays and Sundays.

There are no eligibility requirements to meet to request a bag, though the bags are intended for school-aged children. Families are encouraged to check out the other free exciting programs and services offered at the library facilities when they visit to pick up the bags.
