The GIS Section provides in-house training in basic GIS concepts and ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop software on an 'as-needed' basis. There are also outside training resources available that offer an excellent variety of instructor-led courses, webinars, and self-paced training formats.

Course Description: Internet Mapping Resources
Duration: 1/2 day
This class explores the mapping resources available on the County Intranet, as well as the Internet. This includes exploring ArcIMS, MapQuest, Google Earth, and Live Search.
Course Description: GIS 101- Understanding and Using ArcGIS
Duration: Full day
Explore basic GIS and database terms and concepts; overview of county GIS resources; functions of ArcCatalog; basic mapping using ArcGIS/ArcView including symbolizing, selecting, and querying data; working with attributes; joining spatial data; adding X,Y coordinates; essential map elements; printing and exporting a map.
Prerequisites: The prospective student should have ArcGIS software already installed on their desktop PC and be familiar with working in the Windows OS.
ESRI offers a variety of training courses in various formats including instructor-led, online, and self-paced options. They offer an RSS feed of instructional information as well as live webinars. GeoSpatial Training Services Geospatial Training Services offers a wide array of GIS-related courses. They offer training, books, subscriptions and a variety of other services. They also have a good deal of free resources available on their website.
Geographic Systems LLC Geographic Systems LLC offers basic ArcGIS Desktop I and II training as well as more advanced and/or custom topics.
