The voters of Manatee County feels it is a responsibility to provide for the operation of continuing programs in order to ensure the health, welfare and safety of Manatee County's children through 17 years of age. A thirteen member Advisory Board was appointed by the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners to study the conditions of the children of Manatee County and to provide recommendations. From this came an initiative to study, plan, and provide funding and programs for abused, neglected, at-risk and economically disadvantaged children. [more]
Manatee County Human Services provides a host of services for the economically disadvantaged. Qualified recipients may receive assistance with prescriptions, inpatient hospital bills from out of county hospitals, ambulance fees, special assessment for road and sewer improvement projects, indigent burial and summer food. We manage funding agreements with various non-profit agencies and other organizations providing services to the residents of Manatee County. We also pursue program specific state and federal grants to fund local criminal justice initiatives. [more]
