Manatee County Area Transit is hiring new bus operators

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Aug. 24, 2017) – Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) officials announced today that there is still a need for new bus operators.

Hiring for new bus operators has been an ongoing effort since May. However, MCAT still requires 16 more operators to fully staff the bus operations workforce.

All new bus operators are required to complete operations and safety training — a program that can take up to 10 weeks. Operators are also trained in cross-functional work assignments that include Transit, Trolley and Paratransit operations. This cross-functional training is critical to filling any open work assignments on an as-needed basis.

“Reaching a point where all bus operator vacancies are filled relieves the constant pressure on the operations workforce, who continually work long hours and extra shifts each week," said Manatee County Transit Operations Chief Jim Egbert. "We’re looking forward to finding new teammates to take MCAT to that next level of operations. Once these new operators are hired, in-depth training will ensure that they are fully capable of completing any work assignment."
