Bus operators needed at Manatee County Area Transit
MANATEE COUNTY, FL (March 3, 2017) – Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) is hiring full-time bus operators to provide high quality public transportation services throughout the County.
Last year MCAT officials brought the driver shortage situation to the attention of County Commissioners who responded by funding two new Handy Bus drivers. But several vacant positions mean MCAT needs new drivers to maintain existing service levels.
Qualified applicants for bus operator positions must possess a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a Class “B” CDL permit with passenger endorsement by the effective date of employment and must pass a Department of Transportation physical.
Each bus operator is cross-trained to work the full array of bus services offered by MCAT, and every operator undergoes a comprehensive six-week training program which includes classroom instruction and supervised driving time on MCAT routes.
Transit Division Manager, William P. Steele said joining the MCAT team is an opportunity to join one of the best transit divisions in the state.
"MCAT's team of bus operators are the critical frontline employees that consistently deliver high quality public transportation services to the residents and visitors of Manatee County," said Transit Division Manager William P. Steele. "Over the last two years, three deserving MCAT bus operators were recognized as the very best in Florida. The dedicated service, competency, and commitment to the community of MCAT bus operators are clearly reflected in these recent awards and recognition.”
Steele added that Manatee County Government is a great place to work and offers an excellent benefits package including Florida Retirement System (FRS) contributions, paid holidays and vacation leave, and a flexible Health Benefits program.
