District Chief Thayer, who has worked with the County since 2002, will receive the Career Service Award during the ceremony held at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the Commission Chambers of Sarasota County Administration Building, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. Thayer said she was quite surprised to learn of the award, and she’s excited to meet Congressman Buchanan tonight.

Thayer was recently promoted from charge paramedic to district chief, a role she says is challenging and rewarding.

“Robin is truly a rising star in Manatee County Public Safety,” said Public Safety Director Bob Smith. “In addition to being selected as the 2015 Paramedic of the Year her recent promotion to District Chief has seen her take on a new level of responsibility which she has shouldered wonderfully.”

“I don’t think I’ve done anything more spectacular than anyone else,” Thayer said. “I work with a lot of intelligent people who have given just as much as I have. I don’t deserve this any more than anyone else, but it’s a huge honor to be chosen.”

Thayer was nominated for the award by EMS Commander David Byington, who said Chief Thayer goes above and beyond normal job activities in EMS. Byington says Thayer is respectful and compassionate. Her supervisors have described her as an “employee with a high level of professionalism with a calm, collected approach to patient care.”

“She continues to grow and excel to better herself for future development and is involved in the continuous quality improvement process,” Byington wrote in the award nomination. “She has provided medical and trauma lectures for our EMS auxiliary personnel and has assisted with the instruction in Advanced Life Support and Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers.  As a Field Trainer, Robin has been involved throughout the year with training and nurturing of students and new employees.
